Water-Guard is a family of water repellent products from Atsko, Inc., the makers of Sno-Seal the original beeswax waterproofing for leather. Water-Guard products include silicone in solvents systems and polymer in water systems.
The most versatile are the polymerizing silicone products, Silicone Water-Guard and Water-Guard Extreme Aerosol’s and Liquid Silicone for special applications including shoes, arrow fletchings and fishing flies. These are all heavy-duty formulas for maximum water resistance. The newest addition to the Silicone Water-Guard family is called Fast Dry. It is an aerosol with less potential for visible change on Suede and light colors but adequate protection for light or infrequent exposure.
Silicone Water-Guard products can be applied to just about anything from concrete to nylon windbreakers and makes them all bead water. Silicone eventually washes away and must be reapplied. Silicone Water-Guard products all offer some degree of Sun protection and mold/mildew resistance. Water-Guard Extreme has the highest concentration and incredible durability in continuous outdoor exposure while Fast Dry at the other end of the spectrum is ideal for Suede, Ties and upholstery. If a heavy-duty product is being used on a "Light" application we suggest making the application lighter by spraying the product on a clean cloth and using the cloth to gently wipe the silicone onto the surface. You can always apply more if necessary.
Permanent Water-Guard is guaranteed to repel water for 25 washings. Competing products fail after 1 or 2 washes. Permanent Water-Guard is the most environmentally friendly repellent you can use. It can save 100's of times it's cost. These polymer-in-water systems are sensitive to contamination and should only be applied after washing in Sport-Wash. They need to be heated in the dryer after the Permanent Water-Guard has dried. This sets and activates the polymers for maximum performance and durability. We recommend them for use only on items that can be washed and dried. The Permanent Water-Guard line is only 2 products; #1356 for natural and absorbent materials like cotton and cotton blends and #1357 for 100% synthetics like nylon and polyester. Whether restoring a failed factory DWR or imparting repellency for the first time, Permanent Water-Guard will amaze you wash after wash.
